My beloved Faithful of the Diocese: As we begin the Great Lenten Season, I wanted to share with you a few thoughts so that we may journey through the season and approach Pascha with the proper frame of mind. In the hymn of Cheese Fare Vespers we hear, Let us set out with joy upon the season of the fast preparing ourselves for spiritual combat. Let us purify our souls and cleanse our bodies. As we fast from food let us also fast from every evil, rejoicing in the virtues of the spirit. Let us persevere with love and so be deemed worthy to venerate the passion of Christ our God and with great spiritual gladness to behold His Holy Resurrection. Read more...

On this the one year observance of the falling asleep in the Lord of the ever-memorable and thrice-blessed late Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos, I convey to all the beloved faithful of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church my deepest and heartfelt condolences. Even the passing of a full year does little to soothe the feelings of loss and bereavement, yet even as we prepare to mark his passing this coming Sunday, March 18th, we know that the beloved Metropolitan now stands before the throne of God, loosed of the weaknesses and infirmities of the human existence, and replete with the joys and the fruits of the Spirit. JOHNSTOWN, PA -- On Sunday September 11, 2011 Diocesan parishes throughout the U.S.A. will remember offer special prayers during Divine Liturgy in remembrance of the 10th Anniversary of the 911 tragedy. For those parishes observing the Julian Calendar, the solemnity and sorrow of this day will be placed within the context of the Feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist, which is traditionally observed in fasting and intensified prayer.
