In the latter 1800’s, Alfred Lord Tennyson invited a Russian nobleman to his estate. And early one morning this nobleman took off with dogs & guns & servants to go hunting. At mid-day he returned & Lord Tennyson asked him how he did. He answered, "Not very well. I shot two peasants." Lord Tennyson thought for a moment & then said, “No, we pronounce it with a ‘ph’ here. On-Line Scripture Study Seeking Input For Future Programming

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- For the past four years, a weekly on-line scripture study has been broadcast live from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Warren, Ohio. Taught by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Kenneth Bachofsky, Professor of Scripture at Christ the Saviour Seminary, the participants have studied the Gospels of St. Matthew and St. John and the Book of Revelation. Orthodox Youth Mission Team Leaves for West Virginia!

JOHNSTOWN, PA [Diocesan Chancery] --- Today, (Saturday July 9th) the 2016 Orthodox Youth Mission Team (OYMT) left for West Virginia. The team will be participating in a week long mission trip with the Appalachian Service Project (ASP) in the town of Huff Creek, WV in Wyoming County. The goal of ASP is to make homes “warmer, safer and drier.” The team of 34—24 high school youth and 10 adult leaders from 7 parishes of the Carpatho- Russian, Orthodox Church in American and the Greek Orthodox Dioceses in CT, NY and NJ are excited for this opportunity to serve the Lord and put their faith to work helping families in this very impoverished area of the country. My experience of College Conference was incredible. I was thoroughly impressed with all of the workshops and speakers. As someone who was raised in the church, I was thrilled to not just get Sunday-school answers to issues, but to have actual honest discussion about the topics. My favourite workshop was on Media Martyrdom, hosted by Steven Christoforou. I thought he did an excellent job of reflecting on media in today’s society and offering some ideas without feeling the need to come to an easy cookie-cutter resolution. I thought the teaching Liturgy was also very well done. His Grace, Bishop Gregory did an excellent job explaining the history and significance of the different parts of the Liturgy in a way that didn’t disrupt the prayerfulness of the service.
