Youth Ministry and Religious Education Goals Published
March 23, 2006
JOHNSTOWN, PA - His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas, has announced the creation of two
new diocesan guidelines for Youth Ministry and Religious Education which are
now available on line.
The first document, created by the Diocesan Apostolate for Youth, under
the chairmanship of Very Rev. Jonathan Tobias, is entitled, Encouraging
Christ Likeness. This pamphlet provides an overview of the nature and
scope of the new Youth Ministry initiative in our Diocese. It is a must reading
for all parish priests, youth workers and parents. In the months ahead concrete
programs and outreach initiatives based on these guidelines will be established
to meet the needs of our diocesan youth.
The second document, Curriculum Guidelines For Religious Education -
Preschool to Senior High School, was created by the Diocesan Religious
Education Commission, under the chairmanship of the Very Rev. Protopresbyter
Kenneth Bachofsky. This working document was prepared to assist our diocesan
parishes in providing quality religious education to our diocesan
youth. Within this document is a mission statement for diocesan religious
education, a comprehensive outline of the desired curriculum, as well as
guidelines for each grade/age level, sources for purchasing textbooks, a
listing of on-line resources and other useful reference materials. This
document is an invaluable resource for parish priests, church school
coordinators and teachers and parents.
