JOHNSTOWN, PA - The following information regarding the 2003 Know Your Faith Educational Conference has been released by the Diocesan Religious Education Commission:

Crown Them With Glory & Honor: Orthodox Perspectives on Christian Marriage: Challenges In Modern Life

About the Conference:

This year's Educational Conference is open to all who wish to learn
more about the Orthodox Faith. It will take place on Saturday,
Sept 20, 2003 in the Main Lodge of Camp Nazareth, located at
339 Pew Road in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Camp Nazareth is
conveniently located off Exit 2 of I-80 near the Ohio/Pennsylvania
border. The conference will begin at 9:00 am and conclude at
4:00 pm.Lunch will be provided by the Camp Nazareth Staff

Topics and Presenters:

1) Orthodox Perspectives on Christian Marriage - Challenges in Modern Life
, Very Rev. Dr. Gerasimos Murphy

Fr. Gerasimos will discuss various aaspects of Orthodox Christian Marriage and the many problems facing couples in modern life. Not only will he give an Orthodox Theological perspective on Marriage, but he will discuss specific problems in the areas of sexuality, fertility, divorce, family life, etc.

Father Jason serves as a priest in the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese since his ordination in 1967. Father Gerasimos is a graduate of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theological School at Brookline Massachusetts. He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Andover Newton School of Theology in 1982. He later received a Doctorate in Canon Law (J.C.D.) from the Lateran University Law School in Rome in 1992l He is now on the Social Ethics Committee of SCOBA.

2)  Educating Orthodox Christians From the Inside Out
The Rev. Deacon Emil Gulick of St. John the Baptist Church in Hawk Run, Pennsylvania.

Father Deacon Emil will present a workshop that will deal with various teaching strategies for usagein teh Church School Setting. Various problems as well as possible solutions will be discussed.

Father  Deacon Emil is a graduate of our Diocesan Deaconate Program. He received his B.S. in Natural Science and Mathematics from Bloomsburg University, and an M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems, also from Penn State.
