Diocesan-Wide Memorial Services Marking the Fortieth Day After The September 11th Tragedy

JOHNSTOWN, PA - A special 40th day Memorial Service for the victims of the
September 11th terrorist attack on our country is being planned for Friday,
October 19th at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Johnstown, PA, beginning at 7
P.M. It is anticipated that Metropolitan Nicholas and the Orthodox clergy of the
Greater Johnstown area will be joined for the Memorial Service by the hierarchs
and priests of the Metropolitan Pittsburgh area as well. The service will be
sung in the traditional Carpatho-Rusyn Plain Chant. A social will follow in the
Cathedral Educational Center.
A similar service is being planned at St.
John the Baptist Church in Perth Amboy, NY, where the clergy and faithful of the
New Jersey and New York Deaneries will gather on Sunday, October 21st. A
Parastas will be served at 6:00 P.M. The Perth Amboy Church Choir, directed by
Mr. George Hanas, will sing some of the responses to the service. St. John's
Church will also host a social after the Memorial
Service.
