Passion Week Has Begun!
JOHNSTOWN, PA -- With the setting of the sun this evening, Holy Week has officially begun.
Holy or Passion Week is set apart in the Orthodox Church Year so that we might slow down our pace and meditate upon and re-live the glory and the agony of that week in our Lord's life which opened once again to all creation the doors of Paradise. The events of this week are presented to us by the Church through Her Divine Services, which unveils its mysteries to us, helps us identify with them and elevates to us in the all embracing movement toward our Lord's triumph over sin and death.
Diocesan faithful are encouraged to take part in the daily cycle of services as celebrated in their parish community.
Are you seeking a spiritual home during these sacred and holy days? We invite you to click here to search for a diocesan parish near you.
Those who are homebound may wish to view selected services from Holy Week which will be live streamed on the internet from Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Click here to view schedule and link to live broadcasts. You may also view the Cathedral Holy Week Photo Gallery to see scenes from daily services.
Want to keep focused on the Lord this week? Keep our on-line prayer chapel open on your computer browser where you can light candles and listen to hymns from Holy Week in the backround as you work. Click Here to Enter.
