Election of His Grace, Bishop-Elect Grigorios

On Thursday, August 30, 2012, shortly before 2:00 pm (local time) the twelve current members of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople gathered in the Patriarchal Church of St George the Trophy-bearer at the Phanar to elect a hierarch for the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the USA.

His Eminence, Metropolitan Savas of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh was selected to preside over the election ceremony.

In addition to Archimandrite Grigorios, who was presented as a candidate selected by the clergy of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, the Holy Synod added two more candidates to the ballot and, at the direction of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch BARTHOLOMEW of Constantinople, came together in the Church to chose one of the three by secret ballot.

Archimandrite Grigorios received all 12 votes

At the conclusion of the service, the Synod reassembled in the Synodal Chamber, where the Patriarch had remained. Metropolitan Savas had the honor of announcing to His All Holiness the results.
