Reflection On The First Anniversary of the Repose of Metropolitan Nicholas

It is hard to believe that it is already one year since our Metropolitan left us on March 13, 2011 for his new permanent home in one of the many mansions Jesus promised to all those who love Him and follow His commandments. The afternoon of his passing is as fresh in our minds as though it just happened today, and not one year ago. It is difficult to grasp where that one year has gone. We all miss him – his preaching, his liturgizing, his masterful singing of the Carpatho-Russian Chant, his hospitality, and his genuine ease of communicating with everyone – from little children to Patriarchs – and all the rest of us in between. There is hardly a day that has gone by that someone has not reminded us of these beautiful memories.

Here in the Cathedral we will maintain the memorial shrine in his memory near his Episcopal throne until God provides for us and sends us a successor bishop-elect. Somehow that shrine brings those of us who worship here regularly a comfort and peace in his absence. And that is a good thing.

Eternal Memory! Vicnaja Jemu Pamjat!

- Very Rev. Protopresbyter Frank P. Miloro
