Epistle Reading: Hebrews 10:32-38
But recall the former days in which, after you were
illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:
partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches
and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were
for you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully
accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and
an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.
Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great
For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done
the will of God, you may receive the promise:
"For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come
and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back,
my soul has no pleasure in him."
Gospel Reading: Mark 2:14-17
And as He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at
the tax office, and said to him, "Follow Me." And he arose and followed Him.
Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi's house, that many
tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples;
for there were many, and they followed Him.
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax
collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, "How is it that He eats
and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have
no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the
righteous, but sinners, to repentance."
Epistle Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that
we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means
precede those who are asleep.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the
dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we
shall always be with the Lord.
Gospel Reading: John 5:24-30
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and
believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into
judgment, but has passed from death into life.
"Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is,
when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear
"For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the
Son to have life in Himself,
"and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because
He is the Son of Man.
"Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all
who are in the graves will hear His voice
"and come forth; those who have done good, to the resurrection
of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
"I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My
judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of
the Father who sent Me.
