2015 Lenten Youth Project To Benefit St. John the Compassionate Mission
“Come, let us cleanse ourselves by almsgiving and acts of mercy to the poor, not sounding a
trumpet or making a show of charity….” - Vespers from the First Sunday of Lent
JOHNSTOWN, PA -- With the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Gregory, the National Junior ACRY, as in previous years, calls upon all to help aid in the mission of our diocesan apostolate of Saint John the Compassionate, in the inner city of Toronto, Ontario. The National Junior ACRY hears the call from the hymns of the Great Fast/Lent and invites everyone to help fulfill this plea of the voice of the Church.
Members of the Junior ACRY had the opportunity to visit the Mission this past summer and witness Christ’s love which labors through the Mission to minister to the needs of so many. Last years donation from the National ACRY was hand delivered by National President Josef Samilenko to Fr. Roberto on behalf of all who donated to the Lenten Project. The Project raised nearly $4,000.00 for the Mission last year.
The Very Reverend Father Roberto Ubertino who leads the mission along with the staff and volunteers helps provide assistance to those in need in the inner city. The mission has continued to provide meals, job training, spiritual counsel and education to all those in need in part because of the generous contributions made by individuals and organizations.
The mission needs support not only from those who donate their time and talents, but also from those who can offer financial support. This support is needed to insure that the programs of the Mission can continue to help transform the lives of those in need. You can visit the mission’s website for detailed information on its many ministries: www.stjohnsmission.org
The National Juniors invites individual chapters, parishes, church school classes and other parish organizations to aid in this endeavor of providing for the needs of others through this Diocesan mission during this season of Lent. This appeal is an opportunity for all to participate in the spirit of the Lenten season, which focuses on almsgiving and compassion for others in need.
Parish organizations can help by holding an event or fund-raiser to provide funding for the mission. A collection box might be placed in the parish hall for use during social time following divine services. Special collection containers can be given out to families to have in their homes to use during Lent.
Funds will be coordinated through Saints Peter & Paul ACRY in Windber, Pennsylvania.
Checks can be made out to Saints Peter & Paul ACRY Chapter 13, and sent to:
141 Hoffman Farm Road
Windber, PA 15963.
Please call Fr. Miles at 814.467.7444 with any questions. Funds can be sent in throughout the Great Fast and the Paschal Season. By God’s grace a trip is again being planned to the Mission for this coming summer that the funds raised by the project will be hand delivered to the Mission.
