Thursday, December 23, 2021
JOHNSTOWN, PA - [Diocesan Chancery] -- With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that +Archon John Halecky, Jr. fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, December 22. John was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, NJ.
For twenty-five years Mr. Halecky was a member of the Diocesan Board of Trustees and Financial Secretary of the Diocese during the Episcopate of the late Bishop John R. Martin. He was instrumental in establishing the Clergy Pension Fund, served on the Advisory Committee of the Monastery of the Annunciation in Tuxedo Park, NY, and was a recipient of the “Bohorodica” Award.
Archon John was a former member of St. Mary Church in Bayonne, NJ, where he was a Trustee. After moving to Mountainside, NJ, he took membership in St. Nicholas Church in Elizabeth, NJ where he served in roles as a Trustee and President of the Board of Trustees for many years. He maintained his long-time membership in St. Nicholas Church of Elizabeth, NJ while becoming a dear friend and supporter of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, NJ.
Archon Halecky was invested as an Archon and member of the Order of St. Andrew in 1982. He served on the National Council of the Order beginning in 1998 as member, Treasurer and then Vice Commander.
John's contributions to the Order of St. Andrew and the Ecumenical Patriarchate were extraordinary. He served with distinction on the National Council for decades, including in the leadership positions of National Secretary and National Vice Commander. His Carpatho-Russian lineage brought an invaluable ecumenicity to the Order of St. Andrew as he always provided essential insight regarding the Slavic jurisdictions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any offerings be directed to https://bartholomew.foundation.
Archon Halecky is survived by his wife, Sonia, and children John Halecky III and Nadine Quaglia (Silvio Quaglia,MD) and four grandchildren: Justine, Jennifer and Cassandra Quaglia and Amanda Aguilera (Nicholas).
