JOHNSTOWN, PA - [Diocesan Chancery] -- With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that Pani Eleanor Polanichka, the wife of Very Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Polanichka, reposed in the Lord on Sunday Nov 21, 2021. 

Pani Eleanor was born May 10, 1941, in Nesquehoning, Pa., to George Sr. and Bertha (Medinci) Hazuda. She graduated from Nesquehoning High School in 1959. On June 11, 1960 she married the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Polanichka at St. John's Orthodox Church in Nesquehoning and they just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She and Proto. Michael served in parishes in Bayonne and Rahway, N.J., and moved to Sharon in October 1972. She was the mother to the parish of St. John's Orthodox Church, Sharon/Hermitage.

She had a true devotion to her faith and trust in God and always believed that things would work out for the best. Her faith and the devotion to her family were the true cornerstones of her life.

Pani Eleanor was involved in many organizations and clubs at the church as well as organizing, purchasing and selling all of the religious items in the Church showcase.

Pani Eleanor came up with the campaign idea for "A Dollar A Day" fundraising which benefited the Diocesan Camp Nazareth in Mercer. Pani Eleanor was known for her love of cooking and baking and loved to share her recipes and goodies with all.

Visitation and services will take place at Saint John's Orthodox Church (3180 Morefield Road, Hermitage, PA) on the following days and times:

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2021
Visitation from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM  Panachida at 7:30 PM

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2021
Visitation from 10:00 AM until start of service. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM
