JOHNSTOWN, PA - [Diocesan Chancery] -- With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that John D. Deignan, the Father of Pani Bonnie Kovalak fell asleep in the Lord peacefully surrounded by his family on January 1, 2025.
John was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Carole of 57 years of marriage, five daughters, twenty four grandchildren, brother Thomas, and sister Margaret. John was the principal of Harmony Elementary School in Middletown for 34 years before his retirement in 2002. He was active in his church and will always be loved and remembered by his family, friends, and the numerous lives he impacted.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Carole, five daughters, Johanna (Joseph) of Paramus, Mary of Salem, NY, Jenny (Michael) of Gonvick, MN, Bonnie (Rev. Fr. Thomas) of Toms River, and Erinn (Devin) of Clearfield, PA, as well as 24 grandchildren who loved their Granf, in particular his oldest grandson, Joseph Beres with whom he was very close. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, James (Janice), and sister in law Diane, and is survived by his brother Thomas (Diane), and sister Peggy (Ted), several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The viewing will be at Pfleger's funeral home in Middletown, NJ on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 4-7pm.
The Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 11 am at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Middletown, NJ
