Bishop Gregory Attends 30th Anniversary/Reunion of the Young Adults League (YAL)

DALLAS, TX -- On Friday July 5, 2013, His Grace, Bishop Gregory of Nyssa delivered the keynote breakfast address at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America's 30th Anniversary Young Adults League Reunion. The Theme of His Grace's Address was: "UNITY in CommUNITY: He called all to unity ... to cultivate Liturgy, Witness, Service and Fellowship" The YAL reunion took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dallas Texas. This event was offered as a Living Memorial in honor of Rev. Father Angelo Gavalas, the then Youth Ministries Director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North & South America.

WEST VIRGINIA [ ASP] --High school students from The New England Deanery are taking part in a youth mission project which runs July 6 -14, 2013. They have traveled to West Virginia to work on home repairs for those in need through the Appalachia Service ProjectSM (ASP). In the Appalachian region served by ASP one in every four residents lives below the poverty line, and over 50,000 households live on less than $10,000 per year. On a daily basis, families need to make tough choices between food, clothing and medical supplies. Often home repairs fall low on their list of priorities.

JOHNSTOWN, PA --- The Diocesan Chancery is pleased to report that the Youth Mission Team, led by Very Rev. Fr. Miles Zdinak and Very Rev. Protopresbyter Peter Paproski, arrived safely this evening at our Diocesan St. John The Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Canada. The team will be assisting with the work of the mission through Friday July 12, 2013.

JOHNSTOWN, PA --- The Diocesan Chancery is pleased to report that a Youth Mission Team, led by Very Rev. Fr. Miles Zdinak and Very Rev. Protopresbyter Peter Paproski, will be travelling to our Diocesan St. John The Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Canada. The team will be in place from July 9-12, 2013. This mission trip, is sponsored by the Junior ACRY youth organization and is comprised of Junior ACRY officers and members. The purpose of the trip is to allow the youth to experience life at the mission and be given the opportunity to put their faith in Christ at work.

POTOMAC, MD -- On Monday June 24, 2013, His Grace, Bishop Gregory made an Archpastoral Visitation to Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Potomac Maryland to celebrate the Day of the Holy Spirit. After the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, His Grace, Bishop Gregory consecrated the newly installed icons of various Saints of the Church in the Church Nave.

WALDORF, MD -- Pentecost weekend 2013 was the perfect venue for the long-awaited Consecration of St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Church. Arriving on Friday, June 22, 2013 for the celebration of Great Vespers and the reception of the Holy Relics, His Grace Bishop, Gregory presided over the weekend's Consecration Services. Calling upon the Grace of the Holy Spirit, His Grace, Bishop Gregory consecrated the beautiful, Carpathian style wooden Church on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Following the Consecration Ceremony, the first Liturgy, took place in the newly consecrated Church. The weekend festivities concluded with the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy of Pentecost.

A vocation of Saint John the Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Deacon Jonathan had the double blessing of being the first ordination to Holy Orders of Bishop Gregory and it taking place in his home parish.

STRATFORD, CT -- On Saturday afternoon, June 15, 2013, on his way to Bridgeport, CT for the ordination to the Deaconate of Subdeacon Jonathan Bannon, His Grace, Bishop Gregory met with the youth of the New England Deanery at St. John The Baptist Church in Stratford, CT (Broadbridge Avenue) Following the interactive discussion between His Grace and the youth, parents and grandparents present, and the screening of a video about Camp Nazareth, all proceeded to the Church for the celebration of Great Vespers, along with the blessing of three new icons adorning the walls of the Church Narthex and Nave.

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- If you're still on the fence about considering going to Chicago this Labor Day weekend, to attend the National ACRY Convention, it's not too late to get a seat on the Johnstown bus!! The initial email was sent out back in April but so far only 20 seats have been reserved. There's room for 55 but if they do not get more people, they will have to cancel the bus. The deadline for reservations has been extended to June 30th!!

AMBRIDGE, PA --- [National ACRY] It’s Memorial Day evening and I’m sitting down to try to recall some of the events of the past weekend at the 65th National ACRY Metropolitan Orestes Memorial Bowling Tournament, hosted by Chapter #7 – Ambridge. As always, I looked forward to seeing all of the many friends I’ve made over the years at previous ACRY events and was hopeful that this weekend would generate even more memorable moments that I could add to the mental list I’ve accumulated over the years. I was not disappointed!
