2013 Lenten Youth Project To Benefit St. John the Compassionate Mission
But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. - I John 3:17-18
JOHNSTOWN, PA -- With the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Gregory, the National Junior ACRY, as in previous years, has taken it upon itself to aid the Diocesan ministry of Saint John the Compassionate, which is located in Toronto, Canada. The decision to assist this ministry to those in need was made by the National Junior ACRY at the National ACRY Convention held over Labor Day Weekend 2012 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Members of the Junior ACRY had the opportunity to visit the Mission this past summer and experience the labors of love that take place there each and everyday. The donation from the National ACRY was hand delivered to Fr. Roberto on behalf of all who donated to the Lenten Project. The Project raised over $2300.00 for the Mission last year.
The Mission, run by the Very Reverend Father Roberto Ubertino, provides assistance to those in need in the inner city of Toronto. The mission has continued to provide meals, job training and spiritual counsel to those in need in part because of the generous contributions made by organizations and individuals.
The mission, in order to provide for the needs of others, needs support not only from those who donate their time and talents, but also from those who can offer financial support. This support is needed to insure that the programs of the Mission can continue to help transform the lives of those in need. Please visit the mission’s website for detailed information on its many ministries done by the Mission: www.stjohnsmission.org
The National Juniors are inviting individual chapters, parishes, church school classes and other parish organizations to aid in this endeavor of providing for the needs of others through this Diocesan mission during this season of Lent. This appeal is an opportunity to teach the lesson of our Lord’s in taking care of others in need.
Those who wish to assist may choose to hold an event or fund-raiser to provide funding for the mission. Alternately, a collection box could be placed in the parish hall for use during your social time following the service. Special collection containers could also be given out to families to have in their homes to use during Lent. Funds will be coordinated through Saints Peter & Paul ACRY in Windber, Pennsylvania.
Checks can be made out to Saints Peter & Paul ACRY Chapter 13, and sent to:
141 Hoffman Farm Road,
Windber, PA 15963.
Please call Fr. Miles at 814.467.7444 if you have any questions. Funds can be sent in throughout the Great Fast and the Paschal Season. A trip is once again being planned to the Mission for this coming summer for members of the Junior ACRY. These funds raised by the project will be hand delivered by check to the Mission.
