High School Mission Team Leaves For Toronto
JOHNSTOWN, PA --- The Diocesan Chancery is pleased to report that a High School Mission Team, led by Very Rev. Fr. Miles Zdinak and Very Rev. Protopresbyter Peter Paproski, is today on its way to our Diocesan St. John The Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Canada. The team will be in place from July 10-13, 2012.
This mission trip, is sponsored by the Junior ACRY youth organization and is comprised of Junior ACRY officers and members, including Timothy Paproski, National Junior ACRY President. The purpose of the trip is to allow the youth to experience life at the mission and be given the opportunity to put their faith in Christ at work. During their time at the mission they will present the proceeds of the 2012 Lenten Youth Project which totaled in excess of $1000.00
Through the guidance of the Diocesan Apostolate for Youth, in recent years, a greater emphasis has been placed on involving our youth in the life of the Church. Recognizing as Fr. Grigorios Tatsis expressed during his homily at St. George's Church in Taylor, PA, that the youth are not the FUTURE of the Church but rather are FULL MEMBERS of the Church of today, our youth are being called upon to preach the Gospel of Christ, through their good deeds and faithrful participation in the life of the Church.
It is significant that while these youth will be serving the Church in Toronto, another mission team, led by Very Rev. Protopresbyter Luke Mihaly, is also in place in Tennesse, assisting the Apalachian Service Project in performing home repairs and other related service projects.
The faithful of the diocese are kindly asked to pray for the safe travels of our youth, and that they are blessed with a strengthing of their faith in and love for our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
